The MEDIAN function calculates the median number within a specified range.

**What is the Median?**

Where there are an odd number of numbers (e.g. 1,2,3), the median would be the middle number (i.e. 2). Where there are an even number of numbers (e.g. 1,2,3,4), the median would be the midpoint between the two numbers in the middle of the range. In this simple example; the difference between 2 and 3 is 1, 1 divided by 2 is 0.5, therefore the median would be 2.5 (2+0.5).

**Syntax **

=MEDIAN(number1,[number2])

**Arguments **

*Number1*– the first number you wish to include within the median calculation*Number2 (optional)*– the second number you wish to include within the median calculation- Etc

**Function category**
